One can organize an occasion personally or take the easy way out and seek the help of a good catering service. Either way, proper foodservice and catering supplies can determine the success or failure of an event. The rule is pretty simple – good food demands good presentation. Many go to the extreme to prepare the best of dishes and seek awe-inspiring decorations for the event but give little importance to the utensils which are used for serving food.

There are a wide variety of catering supplies available for household and professional catering service providers. They range from plastic bowls, platters and trays to tongs, forks and spoons. Finding the right supplies is not difficult if you know where to look. The internet is the best place to start with; many websites provide quality products at reasonable rates. Wholesale dealers also offer the same.

There are disposable serving utensils which are best suited for small gatherings, large prestigious events like birthday parties, wedding receptions, corporate luncheons and more. The best part of it is that these utensils can be used many times over.

The products on sale these days are durable, with crack and crush resistant features. Food tends to be hot or cold depending upon the type of utensil you opt for. One can serve food easily without the fear of spillage. Some of the utensils come in beautiful designs and attractive features with glossy looks, giving the impression of expensiveness.

Quality and service go hand in hand. As such, turning a blind eye to intricate aspects can cost you dearly in the end. Anticipate the number of guests you are going to entertain and shop for quality foodservice and catering supplies. Guests appreciate the effort taken to serve them and it can turn out to be the talk of the day.

Catering is not like a restaurant business where few people have to be served food. In catering business the company has to serve lot many people which may be as much as one thousand. Hence the management of the business is different as well. It becomes more difficult to run a catering business as trends change very fast. There fore one has to keep up with changing styles and the way we celebrate.

Most of the catering for parties is done on a grand scale with lot of pomp and show. In the current scenario the popularity in themed parties is weddings. Hence the caterer should be able to deliver themed events based on his client’s choice. It has become more difficult for the caterer as the client has become very choosy. The client sets aside certain demands and priorities and the caterer has to deliver all that and still remain with in the budget given by the client.

The demand for catering is increasing day by day. The reason is people do not like the hassle of making such laborious arrangements for events themselves.

To begin, the client’s vision is paramount to any caterer. Usually, we are given certain parameters to work with, and are responsible for executing their plan. Old style of food is in thing today. There is more stress on organic food which is grown without the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers. Ethnic food is becoming very popular and Indian and Chinese food style is in great demand. These are more popularly served in premier banquet halls.

Unlike heavy servings in the olden days today people wish for light servings and courses with tidier look. It is not only the taste but the flair with which it is presented. Salad dressing and fancy decoration of the food item is a must which the chefs at the caterers must be good at.

Most important catering services are preferred as composite units. Here everything is desired from the top caterer like catering halls, outdoor party venue, proper kitchen and decorative, live band and video photographers. Hence the business has become more rewarding today but the profitability makes it worth taking a dig at.

Before entering the catering business chalk out the finer points that make or break the enterprise, eventually. Do your own research and analysis and figure out your investment capacity. Most important figure out your audience and their paying capacity. So you can be sure of what level you have to enter at.

Caterers – Jobs in Catering

Services of catering companies:

It has become virtually impossible today to organize a corporate or private function that calls for a long list of invitees, without the dedicated services of a caterer. The moment you set a date for the event, no matter what it is, and decide on the venue, the very next hunt is that for a caterer. These professionals go beyond putting together a perfect feast. They are now diversifying into venue suggestion and setting or decorating, organizing theme events, catering to event marketing, and of course the service of dedicated staff. The services are now highlighted via a number of online and off line resources and information is available 24×7!

The menu planner:

One of the job openings in the catering industry is that of the menu planner. From starters, to the main course and the dessert spread, the menu planner who is most of the time also the manager, plans it all. Of course the budget plays a big role in deciding on the menu. However, these professionals are trained and educated at recognized catering schools and colleges to put on show a scrumptious fair even within the most stringent budget. Most of their effort, especially if the budget is low, can be seen in the presentation of the food and the quality. The menu planner is also equipped to propose different menus and create near-exact estimates of the cost. However, it is the customer’s responsibility to be specific about his or her needs when filling out the request form. It takes the menu planner little or no time at all to offer quotes for comparison. The proposals are always on a per-guest basis.

The chefs:

The chefs recruited by the catering companies are important components of the business. These masters are the ones who have to work in unison to ensure the success of the event. It is the team work that is most observed when the table is laid. In the case of the big catering companies, the chefs most certainly are gourmets who decide on the combinations of entrees and wines. They are the ones who work out the complimenting combinations on the basis of whatever is possible within the budget set. However, when dealing with caterers, especially to ensure that there is no compromise on the food, which is why in the first place they are being hired, you need to check with the chefs whether or not yours is the only wedding or corporate event that day or weekend. If not, it pays to enquire about the number of similar functions they would be catering to. The chefs need to be most spaced out of all the employees to assure you of a gourmet meal and complete value for the investment.

The catering coordinator:

The catering coordinator plays a very vital role. He or she ties up with the customer, menu planner and chefs and outdoor decorators to ensure the success of the event. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that the catering coordinator handles everything from keeping the venue ready at least an hour before the guests arrive and setting up the access area, to ensuring that every guest gets a hot meal platter and is informed of the choices and cleaning up after the function, within the stipulated time, if pre-set. The catering coordinator decides on the overtime charges and the gratuities included, if any. Whether it is corporate or holiday event planning, the office of the catering coordinator takes care of everything.

The catering industry today:

Accolades come in plenty from family and co-workers, when you manage organizing your holiday party catered at your house, in your office or at a specially identified location. Today, caterers offer dedicated services even to the discerning homemaker on special days like Thanksgiving or Christmas, enabling the family to get together without having to miss out on essential quality time with their loved ones and skip the kitchen bound involvement totally! There are many caterers who now offer set traditional menus at special costs and even further customize the meal to family traditions. The services offered are either ‘drop off’ or ‘sit down service’. There is a difference in cost and while the former only involves the supply of the food, the latter involves complete service.
